The Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance, in partnership with the Hunterdon County Open Space Trust Fund and Holland Township, acquired 56 acres of fields and woodland fronting Hawks Schoolhouse and Myler Roads in Holland Township. The property directly adjoins the county's Musconetcong Preserve and will be managed by the Hunterdon County Park system for use and enjoyment of the general public.
"This property represents a significant addition to, and enhancement of the County's Musconetcong Preserve, already a valuable public resource," said Margaret Waldock, the Executive Director of the Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance. "Hunterdon County and Holland Township have been ideal partners in this endeavor, and we look forward to working with them to preserve additional properties in the future."
The entire acquisition of woodlands and fields totaled $ 719,870, with the County contributing $ 359,870, and the Township and Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance each contributing $180,000. The property consists of open fields and woodlands that stretch to the top of the Musconetcong Ridge and includes a small stream that merges with the Pine Brook, a tributary of the Musconetcong River. It is rumored that the property is also a home to Bog Turtles, a state endangered species.
"This is a wonderful addition to the county's preserve and represents a large tract of open space that is now permanently preserved for the benefit of the county," said Kevin Richardson of the Hunterdon County Open Space Trust Fund Program. |
