Milltown Road Preserve

The Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance (HLTA) facilitated the protection of the 12-acre Milltown Road Preserve along Lockatong Creek in Kingwood Township in 2000.

This environmentally sensitive property had been purchased by a developer, subdivided, and was on the brink of development.
Upon learning of the impending development of this significant parcel, HLTA acted quickly to protect this jewel in the Lockatong Creek Project Area. HLTA facilitated negotiations with the landowner and New Jersey Green Acres Program, and, after many meetings, brought about a successful transaction. The Green Acres Program acquired the property and HLTA assumed management and monitoring responsibility of the newly preserved land.

Today, the land is open to the public for passive recreation activities such as hiking, photography, and birding. Future plans call for the creation of a woodland trail.

The property is located along Milltown Road in Kingwood Township, a short distance past the bridge over Lockatong Creek. It is prominently posted with Green Acres signs and can be easily located. The beautiful woodlands, magnificent views of Lockatong Creek and peaceful walks through the woods have been protected for people to enjoy today and for generations to come.
